Murder Mystery Christmas Parties in Saskatoon: Corporate Entertainment Your Team Will Actually Remember
Every December, Saskatoon companies run the same experiment: book a banquet room, order the turkey, hire a DJ, and hope this is the year the staff Christmas party feels like a reward instead of an obligation. It rarely works. People eat, make polite conversation with the person they sit beside every day anyway, and leave by nine.
A murder mystery Christmas party changes the math. Instead of watching entertainment, your team is inside it, interrogating suspects, trading theories over dinner, and arguing about whodunit long after dessert. Smoking Gun Entertainment has been staging interactive murder mysteries across Canada since 1987, and our Saskatoon troupe brings the show to you, wherever in the city you are celebrating.
Why Saskatoon Companies Are Done With the Same Old Christmas Party
The problem with most corporate Christmas parties is not the food or the venue. It is that there is nothing for guests to do together. A great party gives people a shared experience, and a shared experience gives them something to talk about on Monday morning that is not the weather.
A murder mystery does that automatically. Colleagues who barely speak at the office end up on the same team of amateur detectives. The quiet accountant notices the clue everyone else missed. The sales manager interrogates a suspect a little too well. It is team building in everything but name, which is why many of our Christmas clients book us again as a corporate team building event later in the year.
How a Murder Mystery Christmas Party Works
We come to your venue, whether that is a hotel ballroom, a restaurant private room, your own office, or a hall you have rented for the night. The evening starts during cocktails, when our actors arrive in character and begin mingling with your guests, dropping hints and starting rumours. Once dinner is served, the plot thickens: scenes play out between courses, characters circulate from table to table, and at some point in the evening, somebody meets a suspicious end.
From there, your guests do the detective work. They question the suspects, examine the evidence, and submit their solutions before the detective wraps up the case and names the killer. Participation is always voluntary: keen sleuths can interrogate every suspect in the room, while everyone else sits back, eats, and enjoys the comedy. Both kinds of guests have a good night. You can read more about the format on our interactive murder mysteries page.
Christmas Themes Your Team Can Choose From
Our holiday scripts are written for the season, not regular shows with a Santa hat added. Favourites include:
- Murder at the Mistletoe Mall — a Christmas shopping season mystery with big characters and bigger motives.
- Resort to Murder at the North Pole — a holiday getaway where the festivities take a deadly turn.
- Classic whodunits and custom themes — with more than 30 themes in our library, and custom scripts available, we can match the tone your group wants, from family-friendly office party to gloriously over-the-top.
You can browse the full list on our scripts page, and if you are planning well ahead, our guide to booking corporate holiday entertainment early explains why the best December dates go first.
Venues Around Saskatoon We Come To
Because the show travels, almost any space that can serve dinner can host it. Saskatoon clients have plenty of good options, including:
- Hotel ballrooms and conference spaces, such as the Delta Bessborough or TCU Place
- Event centres and halls, including Prairieland Park
- Restaurant private rooms and brewery taprooms for smaller teams
- Your own office or workplace, dressed up for the night
All we need from you is the venue and the meal. We bring the performers, costumes, props, clues, and the detective. We also need a small backstage corner for costume changes, and for groups over 45 guests, or rooms with tricky acoustics, a sound system so every table can follow the case.
What It Costs, and How Far Ahead to Book
Most Smoking Gun shows run between $1,000 and $4,000 depending on group size, the number of actors, and travel, with a typical full show around $2,500. We work with groups from 8 to 500 guests, so a murder mystery fits everything from a small department party to a full company celebration.
For November and December dates, earlier is genuinely better. Prime Fridays and Saturdays in Saskatoon book up weeks ahead, and while we can sometimes staff a short-notice show, two weeks is the practical minimum. If your date is already close, ask anyway: cast availability changes week to week.
Conclusion
Your team works hard all year. They deserve a Christmas party that feels like a night out, not a meeting with gravy. A Smoking Gun murder mystery gives them a story to solve together, plenty to laugh about, and a party they will still be talking about in January.
