Calgary Murder Mysteries, Corporate Events & Killer Parties
Calgary is one of Smoking Gun Entertainment’s longest-established markets, and over the years our actors have left a considerable trail of entirely fictional bodies around the city. We perform interactive murder mysteries for corporate Christmas parties, team-building nights, client events, fundraisers, birthdays and private celebrations, bringing the show directly to the venue rather than asking guests to attend a traditional theatre.
Local producer Jeremy Park has been part of Smoking Gun for approximately seven years. An actor, musician, guitarist and singer-songwriter, Jeremy brings performance, humour and improvisation to both sides of the business. Onstage, he enjoys the mix of silliness and intrigue that makes a Smoking Gun mystery work; behind the scenes, he focuses on making the booking process straightforward for clients from the first inquiry through show night.
Calgary gives us an unusually deep venue history. Smoking Gun has performed regularly at Lougheed House for public shows and for clients including TC Energy and Hexagon Psychology, at Hotel Arts for the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association, at the Deane House, Teatro Restaurant, The Ranchmen’s Club, Earl Grey Golf Course, Sheraton Eau Claire, Romero Distillery and many other city venues. That range lets us confidently adapt the format to everything from a private dining room to a ballroom full of several hundred guests. Outside of Calgary, we do public shows for Aspen Crossing on a train too!
Jeremy’s favourite Smoking Gun memory also shows how far this troupe travels: taking Resort to Murder to Twin Butte, south of Pincher Creek, followed by an overnight stay at Palmer Ranch. The Calgary team regularly performs outside the city and into Southern Alberta and the mountain region.
A typical show begins during cocktails, when characters mingle with guests and start revealing the relationships, grudges and secrets behind the story. Dinner continues normally while the plot develops. Once the detective takes over, guests can interrogate suspects, compare evidence and compete for the final solution. The humour is heavily improvised, so the people in the room become part of what makes each performance different. Participation is always voluntary.
Whether you are planning a company holiday party, fundraiser, client dinner or private celebration, you provide the venue and meal and we bring the actors, mystery, clues and chaos.
Where we perform around Calgary
Our Calgary troupe is based in the city and regularly performs throughout Calgary as well as Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks and Chestermere. That makes it easy to bring a full local cast to events throughout the immediate Calgary region without treating every nearby community as a separate market.
The troupe also travels farther south and west for the right event. We have performed in Bragg Creek, Canmore, Lake Louise and Twin Butte, and can consider High River, Banff and other Southern Alberta or mountain destinations depending on the date and cast size. Give us the venue when you inquire and we will confirm any travel costs up front.

Calgary murder mystery FAQs
How many people can a Calgary murder mystery accommodate?
We can scale the cast and format from small private groups to large corporate events. Guest count helps determine the most effective number of actors and sound requirements.
Can you perform at our own Calgary venue?
Yes. That is our normal format. You arrange the private venue and meal, and we bring the show to you. We can come to your place of work or your home as well!
Do you travel to Canmore, Banff or Southern Alberta?
Yes, depending on availability. The Calgary troupe has a long history of destination and regional bookings, with travel quoted based on the location, for example Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.
Is this suitable for a corporate Christmas party?
Very much so. It breaks up the usual dinner format and gets guests talking across tables without forcing formal participation.
Can you customize the show for our company?
We can often add company references and light personalization. Fully custom writing is also available as an additional service when a client wants a new or heavily branded script.
