Interactive Murder Mysteries in Grande Prairie
Grande Prairie has its own Smoking Gun Entertainment troupe, which means Northwestern Alberta clients do not have to bring an entire cast up from Calgary or Edmonton every time somebody needs to be murdered at a Christmas party.
Local producer Alyssa Hudson trained as an actor at the National Theatre School of Canada and has been involved with the Alberta Playwrights Network and Grande Prairie’s Spotlight Performance Collective. She also works with young performers in the community. That strong local theatre connection gives the Grande Prairie market a genuine regional base rather than treating Northwestern Alberta as an occasional travel stop.
Smoking Gun has performed at the Stonebridge Hotel in Grande Prairie for a Hi-Tech Christmas event and has taken large shows farther into the region, including an eight-to-nine-actor performance for the Spirit River Kinettes at Centennial Hall. We have also booked Grande Prairie corporate clients such as Baron Oilfield Supply and have travelled into smaller Northwestern Alberta communities for other events over the years.
The performance is built around interaction. Characters arrive before the mystery has fully developed and mingle with guests, creating relationships and revealing the motives that will matter later. Once the crime occurs, the detective takes control and guests work through the clues, question suspects and decide who they think is responsible. There is no requirement for the audience to memorize scripts or perform on command. Some guests become part of the action; others simply enjoy the improvised comedy from their tables.
For Grande Prairie companies, this is an easy way to turn a staff dinner into a shared experience without asking employees to sit through a formal team-building program. It also works well for fundraisers, community events and private celebrations where the host wants something more substantial than background entertainment.
We offer a range of themes and can tailor the tone to the group. You provide the venue and meal; our local troupe brings the story, suspects and investigation.
Where we perform around Grande Prairie
Grande Prairie is the base for our Northwestern Alberta market, including nearby communities such as Clairmont, Sexsmith, Wembley and Beaverlodge. Having performers in the region makes these events practical without treating every booking as a long-distance production.
For the right event, the troupe can travel farther to places such as Hythe, Spirit River and Valleyview, and may be able to reach the Dawson Creek area depending on the date and cast requirements. Northwestern Alberta distances are part of the territory, so send us the location and we will give you a realistic travel plan.
Grande Prairie murder mystery FAQs
Are the actors actually based in the Grande Prairie region?
Yes. Smoking Gun has a regional troupe led by Grande Prairie producer Alyssa Hudson.
Will you travel to smaller Northwestern Alberta communities?
Yes, when the date and event size support the travel. Past shows have taken the troupe into communities such as Spirit River.
Can this work for an oilfield or industrial company Christmas party?
Absolutely. Corporate holiday events are a major part of what we do, and the format works well for mixed teams and large staff groups.
Do we need a stage?
Usually not. Our actors work throughout the room. A small presentation area can help for key scenes, but the interactive format is designed to live among the guests.
Can you do a public fundraiser?
Yes. Larger community and ticketed events can work very well, with cast size adjusted to the audience and venue.
